About
I am a 60-year-old guy, as of May 2026, who has been into tech stuff since the early 1980s. First it was a hobby, then it became my work, and it has stayed part of my life ever since.
What I Do Daily
I am an IT Business Systems Analyst. It is a lot less hands-on tech than people might think, and mostly involves research, analysis, documentation, and attending never-ending meetings.
What I Do When I Am Not Working
I have been a musician for well over 40 years and still perform in multiple groups locally. It is not really a hobby. It is part of who I am.
Other Tidbits About Me
- I have three adult children: two boys and a girl in the middle. My oldest is in the tech field and knows more than I do about a lot of it.
- I was in the US Army in the 1980s and served in South Korea as a tactical satellite maintainer/operator.
- I have a BA in History and love everything about history. There will be history stuff here for sure.
- I also love writing, including fiction, non-fiction, blogs, and other projects scattered around the web.
- I have permanently moved back to Linux, even though I have been off and on with it for 25-plus years, and I feel right at home.
- I consider myself an intellectual. My brain never shuts off, and I am a lifelong student of knowledge. Philosophy, existentialism, technology, history, and human nature all interest me.
- Along those lines, I will straight out say I am a believer in the Simulation Hypothesis. I blog about it as Soulthread.
WTF is CalvusRex?
CalvusRex is the working name I use for my small-web life: part mask, part banner, and part reminder not to let the machine decide the terms.
The site is intentionally simple. No tracking, no comments box, no algorithmic feed; just a few pages, a twtxt feed, and whatever else I decide to build or discover.
